GLASLOUGH, Republic of Ireland -- Sir Paul McCartney and his fiancee Heather Mills have spoken of their nerves and excitement on the eve of their wedding in a tiny Irish village.

The couple posed briefly outside Castle Leslie in Glaslough, County Monaghan, in the Republic of Ireland, on Monday as final preparations for their wedding continued.

Despite the heavy rainfall during the day, the pair vowed any rain on Tuesday would not spoil their celebrations -- a specially constructed covered walkway has been constructed between the chapel and three marquees.

McCartney, 59, wearing a blue sweater and grey trousers, passed a rose to Mills and kissed her twice as more than 200 fans cheered.

Mills, 34, wearing a cream jumper and blue denim jeans, revealed that she had made her dress with the help of two London designers.

Sir Paul, said: "We would just like to thank all the people who have wished us good wishes and who have written to us."

Sir Paul said he was "just a bit" nervous about Tuesday's ceremony, while Mills added: "We are excited."

A giant marquee and dance floor have been erected on the banks of the lake outside Castle Leslie as contractors add the finishing touches to what promises to be a lavish occasion.

It emerged on Monday that the pair had turned down a £1.5 million ($2.2. million) offer from a celebrity magazine for exclusive coverage of the wedding because "an occasion like this is for everyone," Sir Paul's spokesman Geoff Baker said.

The magazine is believed to have been Hello!.

Baker added: "Instead there will be a single photo for which publications will pay and the money will go to charity.

"Any occasion like this is for everybody -- not just for the person with the largest cheque book."

McCartney and Mills arrived at the 17th-century estate on Sunday night by helicopter.

But the couple would not spend the eve of their wedding together: "That would be bad luck," Baker added.

He said the couple were like "excited teenagers" in the run-up to the wedding.

About 300 people would be entertained within the grounds of the castle following the service at 300-year-old St Salvator's church, he said.

But he would not say who would be attending the service -- or reveal any other details of the ceremony other than the local priest will be presiding.

He did add that no dress code would be required and that while the menu was vegetarian it would also be "very liquid and alcoholic."

"It's a rock 'n' roll wedding," he said.

Sir Paul said: "We are going to have family and friends and a lot of fun.

"There will be about 10 people you have heard of. We are going to go in and have a private family wedding."

Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Sting and John Eastman -- the brother of Sir Paul's late wife Linda -- are all reported to have been invited to the wedding.

Sir Paul's children, Stella, James, Mary and stepdaughter Heather, were also said to be attending, despite reports of a rift between them and Mills.

A dance floor has been set up alongside a lake and a pier constructed with a luxury boat moored alongside.

Lilies and roses are among thousands of flowers to have been delivered and are being kept refrigerated and watered.

Lighting effects have been put in trees and floating pontoons lie along the banks of the lake, suggesting that fireworks could be launched from the water's surface.

The last of the furniture, crockery and portable toilets were delivered on Sunday.

But amid the atmosphere of anticipation, others were not so happy that most of the supplies had been imported.

Florist Aileen Scott was angry that flowers, including lilies and roses, had been specially shipped in from Holland.

"They are sourcing nothing at all at local level. Even the castle staff have been sent away so that they can bring in outsiders," she said.

Monaghan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Joe Heron told the Dublin-based newspaper Ireland on Sunday: "We would like the goods to come from local suppliers. The castle is a significant part of the local economy."

The Castle Leslie estate boasts about 1,000 acres of grounds and a helicopter landing pad -- but the castle has no phones, clocks or televisions in its 14 rooms.

McCartney and Mills -- a model who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident nine years ago -- met at a charity function, where she was raising money to oppose the use of land mines.

Donations of £1,000 from publications for the wedding photo will go towards an anti-landmine charity, Adopt A Minefield UK.

The couple announced their engagement last July.
